Not everyone needs a vandal cover, but in some cases it is a very good idea.
For whatever reason organizations good or bad, or that have strong views, controversial views or just happen to be the target of someone else’s mischief need a vandal cover to prevent theft of letters or using the letters to write a message they would not approve of. For example: some reason there are people willing to take the sign message and rearrange it into something that is bad and therefore, almost all business signs can benefit from a vandal cover. This same sort of thing applies to signs for nonprofit, federal, political organizations, municipalities and many other organizations. Simply put, if you are one of these organizations or have a message that might be poorly tolerated by that 1% of people that take advantage of no vandal cover to, in their opinion correct your message, please do one of two things. Extend the sign legs so they have a pretty hard time getting up there to change your message if your zoning will allow it.Buy a locking vandal cover to make it hard from them to get to the letters.
If you are just a normal every day business and not in the group noted above you might not need one at all, in which case you should keep your hard earned cash and not get one. Here are a couple of tests to run to see if you might need one.The weakest test – Does anyone else on your street have one? This is a weak test because a lot of folks were never offered one in the first place – but it’s a start and a good sign if no one else is using one.The better test - Ask a couple of business owners in the area if they have had any trouble with unauthorized message adjustment or letter theft. (Note: Due to the thin sizes of portable arrow type sign letters most all of these type signs can benefit from a Wind Protector to prevent their letters from blowing off the sign. Business sign letters are thicker and heavier and generally do not blow off.)
You should end up with a reasonable answer to the question. Please remember this – it is expensive and a pain to get a vandal cover after the fact.
